There have been extensive studies on the watersheds of Nine Springs Creek, Badger Mill Creek, and Swan Creek, in addition to city wide plans. If you are interested in viewing them, contact the Public Works Department.
Rain gardens are areas of planted native vegetation that soak up rain water, improve water quality, and provide habitat for birds and butterflies. They also reduce stormwater runoff, which can cause flooding and drainage problems and can carry pollutants into streams and lakes.
Property owners who implement on-site stormwater management practices like rain gardens, infiltration systems, rain barrels, and previous alternatives to pavement can receive a credit on their stormwater utility bills. Property owners who pledge to take steps to reduce stormwater runoff can receive a credit through the Fitchburg Creek Supporter Program.
