1. How do I make a general donation to the Save-an-Ash program?

Mail or drop off a completed Save an Ash Form and payment at City Hall (5520 Lacy Road, Fitchburg, WI 53711) or make a donation online with credit card — Donate Now.

2. How do I adopt a tree?

Due to increased city funding for EAB treatments, we will not be taking any ash tree adoptions this year. 

3. Will the city be treating my ash tree(s)?

The city will be treating approximately 250-300 street and park tress in spring 2014 and will finish smaller healthy ash trees in 2015. Forestry staff are in the process of completing health assessments and finalizing the 2014 treatment list. Homeowners will be notified if their street tree is going to be treated or removed.

The city will not treat private ash trees in your yard. You will need to contact a certified arborist to treat your private tree or you can treat the tree (up to 50" circumference) yourself with a soil drench method. Homeowner Guide to EAB Insecticide Treatments

4. If the tree is not treated, what will happen?

When Emerald Ash Borer makes its way to Fitchburg, all untreated trees will eventually be infested and will die in three to five years. To minimize the cost and risk of a future infestation, the city will be systematically removing all untreated public ash trees over the next few years. Trees will be replaced as the budget allows.

5. When will trees be treated?

160 public ash trees were treated in 2012 and 2013. The city will treat another 250-300 trees in spring 2014 and the remaining 250-300 ash trees in 2015.
